Nepal National Social Welfare Association (NNSWA) is a leading non-governmental, non-profit, social development organization established in 1990. Officially registered in 1994, NNSWA is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council and has been a key contributor to integrated community development in the Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal.

With over 30 years of grassroots engagement, NNSWA has implemented diverse programs in sectors such as Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Education, Health, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Physical Rehabilitation, HIV/AIDS, and Leprosy prevention. NNSWA has a strong partnership with government bodies, international development agencies, and communities.

Now, with support from Mercy Corps Nepal, NNSWA is implementing the Strengthening Anticipatory Action in Nepal (SAAN) project in selected municipalities of Kanchanpur and Kailali districts. In this context, we are seeking qualified and motivated candidates to join our team as Information Management Officers (IMOs).

Position Title: Information Management Officer

Number of Positions: 2 (One in each municipality)
Duty Stations:

  • Punarbas Municipality, Kanchanpur – 1 position

  • Chure Rural Municipality, Kailali – 1 position
    Type of Employment: Project-based
    Duration: Based on project tenure
    Reporting To: Project Coordinator and Technical Advisor


Role Summary

The Information Management Officer (IMO) will play a vital role in the effective implementation of Anticipatory Action systems under the SAAN project. The IMO will be based at the municipal level and will be responsible for establishing and managing robust information systems for disaster risk reduction, preparedness, and anticipatory action.

This role involves extensive work in data collection, GIS mapping, weather forecasting analysis, and coordination with local government, communities, and stakeholders to support evidence-based disaster response planning.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain information systems to support anticipatory action and disaster preparedness activities.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret both spatial (GIS) and non-spatial data related to disaster risk.

  • Use QGIS, OpenStreetMap, and other tools to prepare risk maps and vulnerability assessments.

  • Ensure data accuracy, quality, and consistency for reporting and planning.

  • Align municipal data systems with Early Warning Systems (EWS) and national frameworks.

  • Support in translating weather forecast data into actionable plans for disaster triggers.

  • Collaborate with local government units, NGOs, meteorological services, and community groups.

  • Train local staff and partners on data tools, GIS, and information management practices.

  • Document lessons learned, case studies, and best practices for internal and external sharing.

  • Provide timely, relevant data and visualizations to assist decision-making and preparedness strategies.


Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Geography, Environmental Science, Disaster Management, or a related field.

  • Certification in GIS, Data Analysis, or relevant technical field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in information management, data analysis, or GIS-related roles in the development or humanitarian sector.

  • Experience in disaster preparedness, early warning systems, or anticipatory action planning.

  • Familiarity with weather data, forecast modeling, and government protocols in disaster risk management.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in GIS software (QGIS preferred), spatial data analysis, and mapping tools.

  • Experience with mobile data collection platforms (e.g., KoBoToolbox, ODK).

  • Strong communication skills and ability to convey technical data to non-technical audiences.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving under pressure.

  • Team player with adaptability in dynamic field environments.

  • Comfortable working independently and managing multiple responsibilities.

  • Flexibility to work during emergencies and outside regular working hours when needed.
